After voting for Mitt Romney for US President (Dang he came so close to winning too) and knowing I had to drive to SLC later I grabbed my bike and headed to Legacy. Rode from Farmington station to NSL Redwood Road then back and north 1/2 mile then came back to the Parking lot.

Got up this morning and thought about going for a bike ride but Doris had a hair apppintment so I promised to go with her later. Well the day came and went and when she left ffor a wedding shower I loaded my bike and headed to Farmington. Rode Legacy to Redwood Road in NSL and then back to the 1/2 mile marker past Farminton Station and then back to the Tacoma. I did 30.4 miles in 1 hour and 42 minutes. Which equals 17.88 MPH average. It feels good. On the way back I was thinking how lucky to have the physical health and strenght to do this in my 59th year. whoa. And thanks to Carrie and Grant for giving me this awesome bike !!

So after several hours working on cable TV / phone lines at Hilton's, I decided to take a bike ride down Legacy. Drove to Farmington Station and headed south to Redwood Road then back north to 1/2 mile past the Station and then back. This is starting to be my typical ride.

Decided to ride my mountain bike (since it is the only one I own) down Legacy today. It was a beautiful fall day and about noon I hit the trail. I rode to Redwood Road in NSL and then returned to Farmington. I noticed my average speed for today was 17.4 Miles per hour. So I really had been pushing it the whole distance. About one mile away from the Farmington Station parking lot, this 30 something guy, on a hot road bike, with all the spandex on, came speeding past me. I could tell he thought he was pretty good bike rider as he past. So I shifted down and stayed on his trail from then on. Alot of the time I had to coast as so I didn't pass him. Going up some of the hills he had to stand up and pump. I stayed right with him making him pretty nervous, I hoped. He was looking to see if I turned off to go into the parking lot but no, I stayed right on his tail. He continued north until the end of Aaron F Richards Parkway, where he waved me on past him. I continued north until I hit the main public roadway where I turned around to return to the Equinox. I really half expected to see him, still resting where I'd passed him but he was gone. Too bad, I would have liked to have seen his face when he recognized this old man still has a little competion in me.

15 September 2012 (Britton's ride)
For the past one and a half years we have been working towards this day. It was to complete our deacon quorum's health project for Duty to God and also the final ride towards Britton's cycling merit badge. as we planned it we were going to go in the morning but to allow Jeramy to ride with us, we changed the time to 12:30pm. At which time I went up to pick Britton up, he was still repairing his bike. Both tires were flat and the bike was missing one pedal. This was not looking too great. Finally was able to break away from the family and go pick up Jeramy. We were about 30 minutes late. Drove to Farmington and unloaded the bikes. From there we headed south on Legacy Parkway and arrived at Redwood Road after about one hour and one minute of riding. Rested only for a minute and headed back north to Farmington Station. About 1 hr 4 minutes.
We refilled our water bottles and had a few snacks then headed north to finally catch up to the paved bike path headed north. You have to ride the public roads about 3/4 mile to reach this bike path. Rode it to where hyway 193 runs into the Freeport Center. Decided that was the turning around point to complete this ride. There are lots of gates and city streets we had to manuver thru and across. Probably 20 gates and 10 streets between Farmington and this Freeport entrance. And that many more on the way back. What a pain. We all decided the next time we'll just stay on the south end and double back to get the required miles. Finished the ride and Jeramy said total riding time was 3 hours 38 minutes. Add to that the time we rested it probably took a total of 4 hours 20 minutes to complete. Jeramy and Britton had road bikes and very light, while I rode my wonderful Mountain bike with all its knobbs.

The Annual Bike the Bear at Camp Hunt. We arrived on Friday about noon and found the last camp site in Sunrise Campground. Sat around til it cooled down and then rode our bikes out to the overlook and grabbed a couple geocaches then back to the camp to drive to Camp Hunt for their Spaghetti dinner. Saturday morning we got up and packed our camp up and into the car before heading down to the Garden City LDS Church parking lot to begin the ride. Headed off at 8am and rode south around the lake to the Idaho State Campgrounds where we rested for a minute before heading back. It was perfect weather and nice people to ride with. 500 approximately bikes. Back to the church by 12:30 and headed up to Sunrise CG to set up camp again and rest. Spencer and Anita were the campground hosts, very nice people. He's black and she has no vocal cords so speaks with a electronic speaker she holds to her throat. I hope to see them again. Spent the night and then woke to drive back home and made it in time for P'hood Mtg.

Saw a white Equinox which honked at me while heading north. Not sure who the 3 women in it were.

In preparations to the annual Bike the Bear next week, we decided to ride bikes as part of the family reunion at Bear lake this week. Drove to Laketown Park where we unloaded the bikes and headed north along the east shore of the lake. Rode to the Idaho State Park, stopped and used the potties then headed south back the same trail. I saw a car tire tube along the road and decided to pull it out of the bush and set it along the road in case someone wanted to stop and pick it up. As I picked it up, I noticed it was full of air and ready to use so I put it under my arm and peddled back to the car with it. 8+ miles. I also stopped and chased after a geocache on the way home with my tube. Fun day and the temps were perfect.

Made it to the 5th South Overpass and decided to turn around. Made it back to Farmington in time to go watch the water fountains at the new shopping center. They have been compared to the fountains at Las Vegas and other resort towns. I wasn't real impressed but was pretty good for little old Farmington.

The south end of Legacy is now connected into down town SLC. I rode it across the newly completed board walk and a bit further then turned around and headed back. Back in Farmington I rode north about 0.1 miles just to look and see how the trail looks north. I'm going to have to do the long trail one day and see where this new trail goes now.

We both were bored so I asked Carrie to ride her bike with me today. We decided to ride Legacy. It was a beautiful day, I wore shorts and and tee shirt. We rode and visited all the way down to NSL. I can't remember having such a fun time with her. When we got near the end of Legacy, she comments that she was needing to go to the Gateway to trade in her phone. Heck, say I, the Gateway is just right over there, pointing to the nearby buildings. So we decided to con tinue south and we rode our bikes to the Gateway. The worst part of the trip was the construction mess on North Temple. While she went into the warm store, I stood by our bikes and froze. The sun was behind the buildings and lots of people were wearing winter coats. She finished up about 3:30 pm and we headed north. It was now cloudy, no sunshine and getting colder. We hurried and got back to the suburban just a few minutes after 5 pm. My fingers refused to work they were so cold. A beautiful day with a beautiful daughter. I'd do it again in a heart beat (and I hope I do).
